SHADOW Equestrian hosts two fundraisers each year. Each Spring, tickets are sold to a Camden Riversharks baseball game. This fundraiser gives the families, volunteers, and staff an opportunity to participate in a night out together. Proceeds are used to cover the yearly insurance costs.
In October, SHADOW Equestrian holds its annual Trail-A-Thon, where each student rides his/her horse through a series of 10 trail stops to showcase the skills learned that year. Each child receives a certificate, a ribbon, and trophy for their efforts. It is also a family fun day with food, face painting, clowns, and a DJ. |

My name is Jennifer and I would like to tell you about my daughter, Marissa, and her six years of experience at SHADOW Equestrian.
Our first encounter with Kay Drissel was at Chase Riding Center We were interested in finding a place where Marissa could get additional therapy. At the time,, Marissa was receiving therapy from Early Intervention and it was very limited. We were still coming to grips with her recent diagnosis of Spastic Dyplegia, a type of Cerebral Palsy. We did not know at that time what was in store for us or our daughter. We wanted a place where she could go that would be all hers. She is the youngest of three children and both her brother and sister were very involved in sports. This was going to be her sport where she could shine, all by herself.
Well, she shines and continues to shine. She has learned how to trot, go over poles, her colors, letters and numbers, and what it means to be part of a whole. It takes a lot of volunteers to help one rider.
Every week they try to improve her eye-hand coordination, her strength, and her ability to recall facts. She never once will complain about riding.
Over the years, there have been adjustments made, which Kay keeps an eye on. She noticed that Marissa was a little tight, so they had her mount on the ramp sideways to make it easier for her. She was growing like a weed, they finally had to switch her to a taller, broader horse. She is now witting straighter and taller on Ego. She rode Shadow since she was three, so it was a pretty sad, but necessary move.
Marissa has grown up at SHADOW and our goals have been accomplished. She is part of a team, she receives weekly therapeutic riding lessons, and her family is involved with other families in the same situation.
